Background

The Canadian Arachnologist is a freely-distributed annual newsletter produced and mailed to recipients the first week in May. The goals are to publish feature articles, profile new members, announce conference details and other news of value, and help foster a sense of community. The newsletter was inaugurated at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta. The first issue was distributed to approximately 35 Canadian Arachnologists in May 2000 and was edited by David Shorthouse and Christopher Buddle while both were graduate students in the Department of Biological Sciences. Since then, the newsletter is distributed annually to over 150 Canadian and international recipients. Production of the newsletter would not be possible without modest, external funding. The newsletter is currently edited by Dr. Robin Leech.
