General Comments: Bite readily and persistently if handled. The venom may cause local swelling and necrosis of the skin and of underlying fatty tissue and muscles. Healing may take up to 8 weeks.

Recorded Habitats:
In Europe, are found in thickets, fencerows, and similar locations but in North America are found almost exclusively in and around houses, especially in the autumn. Specimens occasionally found under stones.

Adults collected in May and June and sometimes into late winter if in warm, human habitations.

Carapace orange-yellow. Chelicerae dark orange. Legs and abdomen yellow, the latter with indistinct heart mark.
