General Comments: This species is distributed from Alaska to Newfoundland and Labrador, south to Arizona and Connecticut. It is also found in Europe and Asia (Dondale & Redner, 1990).

Recorded Habitats:
sunlit forest glades, shrubby meadows (Dondale & Redner, 1990).
Life & Natural History:
Adult males have been collected from late April to October and adult females from May to the middle of November (Dondale & Redner, 1990). Egg sacs with 95-165 eggs have been recorded.

Details About Males
Description:
The carapace has darker lines that radiate out from the dorsal groove. The lateral areas of the carapace are red-brown to black in colour. There are no submarginal bands. Femora I and II and tibia I are darker than other segments. The femora sometimes have dark rings. The abdomen has a pair of dark, latreral bands, which sometimes break into a series of spots toward the posterior or connect to form chevrons. The heart mark is dark and the venter is pale red-brown. Palp: lacks terminal macrosetae. The terminal aophysis is small, pale. The embolus is straight at its base. The tip of the median apophysis has a flat, mesally directed tooth (Dondale & Redner, 1990).

Description:
Coloring like in the male but the carapace sometimes has faint submarginal bands. Legs with femora I, II and tibia I not darker than other segments. Epigynum: hooded with two deep cavities. Median septum has a pair of internal longitudinal ridges at the midline (Dondale & Redner, 1990).
