Natural History, Phenology & Image(s)

Feeding Guild:  orb weavers
Feeding guild when noted defined by Uetz, G. W., J. Halaj, and A. B. Cady. 1999. Guild structure of spiders in major crops. Journal of Arachnology 27:270-280.
Recorded Habitats:  understory of coniferous or mixed forests
Life & Natural History:  This species builds its web in the understory of coniferous or mixed forests. The relatively large orb web (40-50 radii) can be found approximately 2+ m above ground. The spider may rapidly vibrate the web if disturbed (Dondale et al., 2003). According to Kaston (1948), this species overwinters in the penultimate or antepenultimate instar and matures mid-May to summer.
