General Comments: Carapace, jet shiny black. Abdomen slate matt grey, no scutum. All legs a bark brown. Females can be distinguished from other species by the copulatory tubes being long with a double curve. This species also has received the common name, black jack.

Natural History, Phenology & Image(s)

Feeding Guild: stalkers
Feeding guild when noted defined by Uetz, G. W., J. Halaj, and A. B. Cady. 1999. Guild structure of spiders in major crops. Journal of Arachnology 27:270-280. PDF
Recorded Habitats: A specimen has been collection in an alpine riparian habitat at 2,209 m (Hancock, pers. obs.).
Life & Natural History: Collected from Carthew Lake at 2209m, under slabs of sandstone, part of a ridge that holds back the waters of the lake. Site having a south/west aspect and a gentle slope of 3%. The lake’s level is maintained be melting snow. August 13th was the date of collection and both adult females and males were taken (with great care). Sub-adults of both sexes were also present as were spiderlings, fully pigmented within egg-sacs. This species was discovered in 1917, and there is still a thriving community here.

Description: Male, Carapace Shiny jet black,. Abdomen, shiny jet -black scutum covering dorsal portion. Males can be distinguished from other species by the forked tibial apophysis.
