General Comments: Bite readily and persistently if handled. The venom may cause local swelling and necrosis of the skin and of underlying fatty tissue and muscles. Healing may take up to 8 weeks.

Habitat (published): In Europe, are found in thickets, fencerows, and similar locations but in North America are found almost exclusively in and around houses, especially in the autumn. Specimens occasionally found under stones.
Habitat (<30 randomly chosen specimens): mixed deciduous forest foliage; Suburban house; Suburban neighborhood;
Life & Natural History: Adults collected in May and June and sometimes into late winter if in warm, human habitations.
