Natural History, Phenology & Image(s)

Feeding Guild: sheet web builders
Feeding guild when noted defined by Uetz, G. W., J. Halaj, and A. B. Cady. 1999. Guild structure of spiders in major crops. Journal of Arachnology 27:270-280. PDF
Recorded Habitats: in standing, rotting conifer stumps, under loose bark of large, rotten conifer logs, under stones and logs in damp spruce-fir forests (Aitchison-Benell & Dondale, 1990; Leech, 1972).
Life & Natural History: Males have been collected in July and August and females from May to September, with August being the peak month for both genders. Egg sac examinations have shown variable numbers of fertilized and unfertilized eggs, ranging from 41 to 87 successful fertilizations (spiderlings) and 13 to 27 unfertilized eggs (total egg count in 5 egg sacs: 59, 114, 67, 64, and 73). Parasitism by what may have been a Gelis sp. ichneumonid has also been recorded (Leech, 1972).
