General Comments: The range of this species is Alaska to Newfoundland and Labrador, south to Oregon, northern Colorado, and New York; Europe and Asia. Specimens of A. saevus are distinguished from other Araneus species by the prominent strongly curved apophysis, by the thick embolus, which terminates in 3-4 blunt processes, and by the flat bilobed posterior plate of the epigynum. Its large size is also partly diagnostic.
